GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Carrying a price tag that rivals a lakefront cottage, this $1.5 million showpiece commands attention.
The 81st annual Grand Rapids Boat Show has returned to DeVos Place. More than 400 boats from 80-plus manufacturers will span the nearly five-acre display, ranging from aluminum fishing boats to luxury pontoons.
The queen of this year’s show is the Pursuit S 428 from Walstrom Marine. The 43-foot-long vessel is powered by four Yamaha engines producing 1,800 total horsepower, making S 428 the most powerful model built. The sport boat includes a hull-side platform, fishing cockpit and entertainment center.
The show opened Wednesday and runs through Sunday:
Friday, Jan 14 – noon to 9 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 15 – 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 16 – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission costs $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 14. Children 5 and under enter free. Attendees can obtain re-admission wristbands at the coat check for multiple visits throughout the show’s run.

Twiggy the water-skiing squirrel is making a return to the show, performing water safety demonstrations. Shows occur throughout the event.
Other features include the HO Sports tube sale, an antique boat display showcasing vessels from the 1940s and 1950s, and a dive tank from Great Lakes Dive Locker. The Kent County Sheriff’s Department marine division will offer a boating safety certification class on from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.
