Yamaha Expands Its Premium Headphone Lineup With YH-4000 And YH-C3000

Yamaha has added two new models to its lineup of high-end headphones. The YH-4000 is an open-back model with Orthodynamic drivers. The new headphones take their inspiration from the flagship Yamaha YH-5000SE while offering a more intimate and energetic sound profile. The YH-C3000 have a closed-back design with newly developed Armodynamic drivers and real wood housings.
The two new models are part of Yamaha’s commitment to True Sound. This is the company’s guiding philosophy and aims to reproduce audio just as the artist intended with lifelike realism, emotional depth and spatial precision. Both pairs of headphones will be made in Japan at the same factory used to produce the company’s flagship grand pianos and audio components.
“Headphone enthusiasts will be amazed by these new models,” says Alex Sadeghian, director of consumer audio at Yamaha. “The YH-4000 offers a fresh perspective on Orthodynamic sound at a more affordable price, while the YH-C3000 transforms the premium closed-back segment. The combination of our new Armodynamic drivers and wood housings delivers a sound that is exceptionally smooth, natural, and spacious. Plus, they look stunning and are incredibly comfortable to wear.”
YH-4000 Open-Back Headphones
The YH-4000 headphones inherit much of the design and engineering DNA of Yamaha’s flagship YH-5000SE model, but with a distinctive sound signature of their own. The ultra-thin, planar magnetic diaphragms are designed for a fast, precise response and rich detail. Japanese-made PET mesh filters regulate the internal pressure, which enhances the midrange and boosts the low-end while keeping an open soundstage.
MORE FOR YOU
The open-back architecture of these new headphones has a carefully tuned acoustic volume that lets the diaphragms operate under ideal conditions, eliminating unwanted resonance and extracting the nuance of every performance. Weighing just 320g, the YH-4000 have lightweight magnesium housings and a two-layer headband with a stepless slider for a precise fit.
The hybrid ear pads bring together soft suede and flexible PU leather for wearability. An inclined swivel mechanism creates a snug fit behind the ear, which helps preserve the low-frequency response and enhances acoustic performance. Yamaha says that every component has been chosen to provide immersive and fatigue-free listening.
YH-C3000 Closed-Back Headphones
The YH-C3000 headphones incorporate the newly developed Yamaha Armodynamic drivers. This technology has taken more than a decade to develop and consists of a three-layer diaphragm that sandwiches a soft foam layer between two layers of blended paper, resin and ZYLON, the high-performance material used in Yamaha’s flagship hi-fi speakers.
The unique construction of the YH-C3000 strikes a balance between lightness, rigidity and internal damping. The result, according to Yamaha, is a smooth and high-resolution sound with a fast response and minimal distortion. A patented Y-shaped mesh damper and pure iron pole piece boost the clarity and punch, creating a sound signature described as “rich and precise.”
Complementing the advanced drivers are housings handcrafted from beech, the same wood used to make parts of Yamaha’s pianos. Beech was chosen for its natural acoustic properties and the housings are painted and polished to a black mirrored finish that reveals the wood’s natural grain.
The YH-C3000 weigh just 330g and feature a two-layer headband with a stepless slider for a precise fit. The custom earpads are made with memory foam wrapped in silk protein leather for a snug and fatigue-free fit.
Yamaha will be exhibiting its two new models at the upcoming SoCal CanJam headphone enthusiast show, which is on from September 13-14, at the Irvine Marriott in Irvine, California. Attendees will be able to experience live demos of the YH-4000 and YH-C3000, along with Yamaha’s flagship YH-5000SE headphones and its high-performance HA-L7A headphone amplifier.
Pricing and Availability:
The YH-4000 headphones are available from September 2025, priced at $2,499.95. The YH-C3000 will be available at the same time and are priced at $1,699.95.
