After Prada’s spring 2024 show, the fashion world declared the Barn Jacket as the “It” jacket for both spring and fall 2024. While some might find it hard to believe that a staple workman wear jacket would make its way to the glitzy runways, others know it was only a matter of time.
It’s not a new style (it’s literally been around since the end of the 19th century), just a new way of styling. In recent decades, it’s been a royal family favorite — from Queen Elizabeth II’s waxy versions to Kate Middleton’s preppy quilted styles. Some might recall the J.Crew and L.L.Bean catalogs that featured a variety of everyday contemporary offerings in the ’90s.

Fast forward to present day and it should come as no surprise that you would start spotting the trend on street style muses (Ramya Giangola and Eva Chen are fans), popular TikTok accounts and of course celebrities (Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid and Katie Holmes have all been spotted).
Alexa Chung has been a fan of the look all her life and just launched “Barbour The Edit by Alexa,” a collection of clothing and accessories that of course includes multiple covetable versions of the barn jacket.
The most popular are definitely durable (à la Carhartt) and waxed (à la Barbour) canvas versions that create perfectly contrasted ensembles when paired with feminine fall flair.
