NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — A motorcyclist who died in a crash after allegedly running from police in Aiken County has been identified.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday along U.S. 25 (Edgefield Road) near Hampton Avenue.
Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said 46-year-old Roosevelt Walker was riding a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Edgefield Road at high speed while attempting to escape a North Augusta Department of Public Safety officer when he lost control.
Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway said the rider left the road to the right, hit a curb, traveled through a parking lot, hit another curb and then spilled from the motorcycle.
Ables said responding officers rendered aid until emergency personnel could take Walker, who died at Wellstar MCG Health Hospital around 11 p.m.
