A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday when he rode into the rear of another vehicle and then was run over by a semi, the Lake County sheriff’s office said.
The name of the 31-year-old Great Lakes man has not been released.

Police said the accident happened at about 1 p.m. Tuesday on Illinois Route 41, near Washington Street in the Lake Bluff area.
The motorcyclist was headed north on Route 41 on a Suzuki motorcycle, police said, but failed to fully react to slowing traffic ahead of him. He ran into the rear of an SUV and was thrown forward by the impact. The man slid under the wheels of a semitrailer that was in the lane ahead of the SUV, and he was run over.

Police responded, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses told police the man was traveling at a high rate of speed just before the impact.
An autopsy is being scheduled, and the accident remains under investigation.
