Yamaha offers free repairs after discovering this alarming safety oversight in thousands of golf carts

Some Yamaha golf carts have been recalled because they lack a vital safety feature.
The recalled 19,300 model year 2021-2025 Drive 2 Personal Transportation gas/electric vehicles “lack stop lights, posing a risk of serious injury or death due to a crash hazard,” according to an announcement with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The vehicles were sold at Yamaha dealers from June 2020 through July 2025 for between $8,300 and $12,900.
The serial numbers for the recalled vehicles are:
Model year 2021 – Prefix J2D and range from 0000625 to 0000880
Model year 2022 – Prefix J0D with range from 0513701 to 0514498; prefix J0E with range from 0502001 to 0502134; prefix J2D with range from 0000601 to 0000870; and prefix J5C from 0001010 to 0001400
Model year 2023 – Prefix J0D with range from 0600116 to 0607700; prefix J0E with range from 0600111 to 0601578; prefix J2D from 0000621 to 0000900; and prefix J5C from 0100104 to 0101695
Model year 2024 – Prefix J0D from 0700101 to 0706200; prefix J0E from 0601049 to 0701289; prefix J2D from 0200101 to 0200199; and prefix J5C from 0200102 to 0201000
Model year 2025 – Prefix J0D from 0800101 to 0806600; prefix J0E from 0800101 to 0800328; prefix J2D from 0200162 to 0200183; and prefix J5C from 0200166 to 0300281
Owners should contact an authorized Yamaha golf cart dealer to schedule a free installation of two stoplights. For people who cannot take the golf cart to a dealer, Yamaha will provide transportation or will arrange to install the stoplights at vehicle’s location.
