A motorcyclist’s leg was severed in a collision with a vehicle near Wadsworth, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
The cyclist, a 68-year-old Wadsworth man, was brought to a hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
The man was traveling west on Illinois Route 173 at about 1:10 p.m. Friday when an eastbound motorist made a left turn in his path to enter the Van Patten Woods forest preserve.
The cyclist was unable to avoid the Nissan Rogue and his Harley-Davidson ran into the side of the SUV. The cyclist’s left leg was severed during the impact, and a passerby used a belt as a tourniquet for the injured man, police said.
The driver of the Nissan, a 38-year-old Muskego, Wisconsin, woman, was not injured and is cooperating with police, the sheriff’s office said.
