What, in your opinion, makes Lewis Hamilton one of the best drivers ever? Is it his speed, his accomplishments, or something else? Although each of us may have a different response, it is arguably Hamilton’s tenacity and perseverance that truly distinguishes him as a superstar. As things stand, with his zeal and never give up mentality, the British driver has again disproved one of his biggest critics.

Lewis Hamilton experienced his worst seasons ever, as he didn’t take home a single Grand Prix victory. This was major because the German manufacturers struggled with a porpoising, which affected their W13’s pace.

This year, the team secured only a single win at the Brazilian circuit and a few podiums here and there. Russell finished in the top five for nine consecutive finishes whereas the Briton accomplished the same just six times. In an interview with Motorsport.com, the Dutch racing driver said, “At the start of the season I was like ‘it’s time to go. I really thought so. I don’t even know if it was so much the motivation.”
However, throughout the last few races, Mercedes was able to reduce the bouncing problem. Their backbreaking work even gave Hamilton the chance to compete against the Dutch lion for victory. That being said, this way Hamilton has shown that consistent work can change fortunes which even his harshest critique believes.
As according to the Dutch driver, “At the end of the season he was really strong again. I mean, Russell did indeed take Mercedes’ only win this year, but if you look at how he ended the year then Hamilton deserved that win too,” said Coronel.
“I have to say at the end of the year Lewis has driven really well,” he added.
Throughout his F1 career, Hamilton has come in contact with numerous forms of criticism. Not just Tom Coronel, but even some older voices have harshly criticised the Briton, but as we all are aware, the 7x champion has disproved everyone with his diligence.
Lewis Hamilton responds to overly critical older voices
Before his home race at the British GP in July of this year, Hamilton spoke to the media for the first time since Nelson Piquet’s remark aired. To quickly review, the former Formula One champion referred to the Englishman using a racist epithet. Although the 69-year-old apologised for his remarks, this year Hamilton seemed to have grown tired of them and chose to respond on social media as he stated, “I don’t know why we are continuing to give these older voices a platform,” said Hamilton.

This time, it seems like Hamilton has made the decision to let out everything he’s been holding in his thoughts for years. In addition, the Englishman fired shots at Bernie Ecclestone and Sir Jackie Stewart, where the former had defended Vladimir Putin and endorsed Piquet’s remark, whereas the latter requested that he should give up racing in F1.
Hamilton said, “They’re speaking upon our sport and we’re looking to go somewhere completely different. It’s not just about one individual, it’s not about the one use of that term, it’s the bigger picture. It just comes back down to F1, the media, we should not be giving these people a platform.”
Adding further, the Briton said, “It is not helpful, the comments we are seeing from some people. But I’m still here, I’m still standing strong, I’m focused on my work and really trying to push for diversity and inclusion in our organisation.”
