Wauconda-area crash leaves 1 dead, 1 in critical condition

A motorcycle passenger was killed Tuesday and her driver critically injured when their three-wheeled trike ran into a car that was stopped because of mechanical trouble near Wauconda, the Lake County sheriff’s office said.
The accident happened at about 1 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Route 12 and Lake Shore Drive.
Police said a motorist had brought her Ford Escort to a halt in the inside lane of southbound Route 12, due to a mechanical issue.
A 69-year-old Northbrook man, driving a Harley Davidson trike south on Route 12, ran into the Ford. The collision caused the motorcycle to roll, throwing the man and his passenger, a 63-year-old Northbrook woman.
The cyclists were brought to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where the woman was pronounced dead. Police said the man was reported in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford and her passenger were not injured.
The accident remains under investigation.
